Kootenay Lake in the southern part of the region offers plenty of boating, fishing and sandy beaches with Nelson, Balfour and Creston being good access points. Fort Steele Heritage Town is located near Cranbrook and heading north through the Valley of a Thousand Peaks is Fairmont Hot Springs and Radium Hot Springs with golfing, wildlife and of course those welcoming hot springs.
On the western side of the Kootenay Rockies you can follow the Slocan Valley from Castlegar on up through Nakusp to Revelstoke in the National Parks Corridor. Glacier and Mt. Revelstoke Parks have hiking trails, stunning vistas and an abundance of wildlife as well as the popular BC Hydro Revelstoke Dam.
