“New West” is western Canada’s oldest city and
was B.C.’s first capital. Named by Queen Victoria, the Royal
City combines a modern urban waterfront with a core of historic brick

- Irving House and Museum. Completed in 1864, this was the imposing residence
of Captain William Irving, “the king of the River”.
- Westminster
Quay Public Market. A popular waterfront public market with
shops, restaurants and entertainment, as well as a walkway
along the Fraser River where you can watch busy river tugs
and fishing boats at work.
- Samson V Paddlewheeler/Maritime Museum.
The Samson V was the last steam-powered paddlewheeler on the
Fraser, operating until
1980.
- River Tours. Take narrated nature, sightseeing and historical
tours on the Fraser River. Return destinations include Harrison
Hot Springs,
Pitt Lake and Fort Langley.
- The Royal City Star. New Westminster’s
riverboat casino, is sailing full steam ahead on the Fraser
River. The colourful 75 metre replica of
an 1800’s Steamwheeler features gaming tables, slot machines,
restaurant, patio and lounges.
