Rock Creek - Boundary Country, BC.

Boundary Country

Boundary Country is located in the southern most part of the Thompson Okanagan, predominantly along the Crowsnest Hwy 3. The consistently warm summer weather entices hikers, cyclists and those who yearn to be on the water to come and experience the many trails, lakes and rivers in this region. Whilst here, sample some of the freshly-picked fruits and vegetables, buy some local cheese and yogurt, check out farmers markets and take in one of the festivals and fall fairs throughout the communities of Boundary Country.

Many artists and artisans have made Boundary Country home, lured by the stunning landscape of mountains, farmlands, wildlife and the Kettle Valley River that meanders through the area.  Their works can be seen in Rock Creek, Greenwood, Grand Forks and Christina Lake.

Heritage and culture played a large part in the development of this region. The gold and copper prospectors, cattle ranchers and Dukhobors shaped the area that you see today. Check out the region’s own ghost town – Phoenix, once a thriving mining town. Go mining for some crystals at Rock Candy Mines in Grand Forks, try gold panning in the Kettle River. Take a self-guided tour of Greenwood and see the colourful heritage buildings while browsing the shops or taking refreshment at a sidewalk café. The community’s mining and Japanese heritage can be viewed at the Greenwood Museum & Visitor Info-Centre.

The community of Grand Forks invites you to experience the culture and pristine adventure of a beautiful valley. Exciting outdoor adventures, combined with a rich history, awaits you on the Great Trail. Journey along the rugged mountain trail of the Fisherman Station, view the spectacular North Fork Valley, and look above to the rock walls that rise to the sky. Cruise along the Grand Forks valley trail and view the rich, colorful, quilted farmland. Be lured along the Kettle River Trail by the Kettle River. Pass through the historic tunnels and cross the many trestles along the way. Grand Forks is a designated “hub” community on this incredible pathway.

Sparkling, warm lakes and flowing rivers bring the water enthusiast to Boundary Country. Christina Lake is a popular destination with families who return year after year. Swim, SUP (stand up paddle board) kayak or fish for Rainbow trout and Kokanee, whitefish or burbot. Or for something a little more energetic you can wakeboard or waterski. For a quieter spot, venture into Jewel Lake where motor boats are restricted. Paddle your kayak or canoe in idyllic peace and quiet past Jewel Lake’s pristine shores. Look for herons and other birdlife or do a little fishing for Gerrard trout.

If you like waterfalls, there are several to explore. Part way between Midway and Greenwood are the Boundary Creek Falls; the Cascade Falls are south of Christina Lake; and Fisherman Creek Falls are close to Grand Forks and all good areas for exploring.

Boundary Country is a four-season destination and offers plenty of winter activities. Downhill skiing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and even dog-sledding are available in the region. Locally, the Great Trail is popular for cross-country skiing and you can skate or ice fish on Jewel Lake.
