Alaska Highway 97 - Northern BC

Coal River is located at Historical Mile 533 on the Alaska Highway in Northern British Columbia just north of Liard River Hot Springs. A good place for a stopover as there is a service centre here which includes accommodation. Situated at the confluence of the Liard and Coal Rivers, the area offers stunning views, especially from Allen’s Lookout as well as Whirlpool Canyon and Smith River Falls. You can do a spot of fishing with Northern Pike, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling and whitefish in abundance. Nearby Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park provides a place to relax after your long drive. The hot springs are situated amid a lush boreal forest and accessed by a boardwalk.
